² WP - Capacity building for development and effective management of the Institute of Botany, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IB-BAS)
Task 1. Elaboration of a strategy for the development of IB-BAS
- This task involves analysis of the current research program and priorities of IB-BAS and their compatibility with the European and world trends in biodiversity studies. The aim will be achieved by workshops, discussions, thematic group meetings at different levels.
Task 2. Organization of a training course for project proposal preparation, implementation and effective management
- National and foreign experts will be invited as lecturers. Provisional topics will be: "How to write successful project proposal?", "How to address appropriate donors?", " How to manage effectively a project?", " How to deliver successful presentations of research results?"
²² WP - Improvement of human and technological capacity of IB-BAS for biodiversity research, monitoring and conservation
Task 1. Establishment of a Laboratory for biodiversity assessment and monitoring at genetic and genomic levels
- A laboratory will be established with new equipments (PCR-machine, isozyme analysis equipment and photo documentation equipment, flow cytometer, etc.), where new research methods will be applied. There will be training of researchers of IB-BAS and testing of new equipment and methods, and their further improvement.
Task 2. Establishment of a mobile research station
- A mobile research station for biodiversity assessment and monitoring will be equipped.
Task 3. Training of young researchers
- Training courses (lectures, seminars, practicals) will be organized by inviting foreign leading experts.
²²² WP - Improvement of human and technological capacity of IB-BAS for electronic data storage and management
Task 1. Enhancement of technological capacity of IB-BAS
- This task will be performed by developing an operational GIS Laboratory, database, data management system, and by applying GPS technologies for biodiversity assessment, monitoring and conservation.
Task 2. Staff training
- The IB-BAS staff will be engaged in different courses for GIS application, digitalization of the herbarium and mycological collections, as well as providing data to GBIF.
Task 3. Training courses
- GIS technology application :
First level - work shop for GIS application in biodiversity assessment
Second level - GIS software training, presentation and testing the opportunities that GIS technology possesses for biodiversity research and conservation
- GPS use course for minimum 15 people
- Short-term course on databases and data management systems development and/or maintenance.
²V WP - Dissemination of scientific knowledge and project results, and raising public awareness
Task 1. Workshops for raising awareness about project objectives, activities and results
- Two workshops will be held:
- Launching workshop to present project objectives, methodology, management, and expected results;
- Closing workshop to present the results. The participants will be biodiversity stakeholders from Bulgaria and the countries of SE Europe.
Task 2. Development of mechanisms and instruments for exploitation and dissemination of project results
- Development of a comprehensive plan for dissemination of the project information, identification of the existing and potential channels and users both in Bulgaria and abroad.
- Improvement of the web-site of IB-BAS and links to other relevant web-sites (Bulgarian Biodiversity Platform, CHM, BlueLink, etc.)
- Development of mechanisms for effective dissemination of the journal Phytologia Balcanica (advertising campaigns, on-line subscriptions, improved distribution for sale, etc.).
- Dissemination of the project results at IV Balkan Botanical Congress. Identifying of the potential partners and future joint projects on the Balkans.
- Preparation and dissemination of promotional materials related to the Institute of Botany.
- Publishing of research papers, resulting from the project in relevant scientific journals.
Task 3. Raising public awareness on biodiversity issues and ensuring wide public participation in biodiversity conservation in Bulgaria
- Organizing media coverage of the project major steps and results will perform this task. CD's and booklets will be published, presenting the long-term development strategy of IB-BAS and the main results of the project, which will be distributed to the potential partners and stakeholders.
