The participants were 38 people from institutes of BAS, The University of Sofia, the University of Plovdiv, University of Forfestry, AgroBioInstitute, "Rodopi"-project (Ministry of Agriculture and Forest - UNDP, Ministry of the Environment and Waters, NGOs (Borrow Nature, Wilderness Fund, Bulgarian Mycological Society, and Bulgarian Phytocoenological Society), EcoLogic Consultancy Ltd, DataMapEurope Ltd, Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation.
The project was assessed as very modern and important and agreement for cooperation was declared. The participants stressed the successful collaboration with IB-BAS in the projects concerning Bulgarian biodiversity assessment and conservation.
- The reconstruction of the caryological laboratory was finished and modern equipment was set up.
- The reconstruction of the laboratory for biodiversity research and monitoring on genetic and genome level was finished. Equipment delivery is in process.
- The reconstruction of the room for GIS laboratory was finished.
- The GIS laboratory was equipped with the necessary hardware and software.
- On 14 and 15 April 2006 a training course was held in the Institute of Botany entitled "EC type programmes". The main topics were "Introduction in writing project proposals", "Preparing the project proposals", "Working with application forms", "Budgeting of the project proposals", "Project management and project reports". An invited lecture was Ms Stanislava Stancheva, Balkan Consultancy Centre, Sofia.
- Prepared and printed is a booklet that will serve for presentation of the project.
- Five specialists of the Institute of Botany succcessfully completed an introductory course in ArcGIS.
