Database Description

BLDB (Bulgarian Leucojum Data Base) was created to present current status of the summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum L.) populations and habitats in Bulgaria (Georgiev, V., Ch. Gussev, Y. Bosseva, M. Stanilova. 2003. Bulgarian Leucojum Database. Proceed. Int. Symp. Technomat & Infotell 2003, vol. IV, part 1: 241-247, in Bulgarian). This is the first database in Bulgaria entirely devoted to one species of conservational importance and including information about its taxonomy, distribution, habitats, agrobiology, conservation, and phytochemistry. BLDB was created to store and to help managing the information obtained during the implementation of the NATO SfP-Bioproduction project (2001-2005). The database is still under development and contains 10 tables and 6 forms.
RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) Microsoft® Access® 2000 is used as a developing tool. Structure of BLDB is based on tables and the relationships among them and some forms of the user interface are demonstrated on figures.
Buttons on the Main Form (1st figure) started different forms and information blocks. Separate form were made for management of bibliographical information.
The convinient interface of the form Localities of L. aestivum ensures the management of data concerning population charachteristics, soil analysis and phytochemical peculiarities. All these data were obtained within the project. Special attention was paid to the conservational status of the area and land use of the locality.
Other very handy characteristic of Access® 2000, the possibility external for the DB applications as HTML files to be started, was used so to be organized all available information on taxonomy, chorology, habitats, biology, agrobiology, conservatin, phytochemistry and phytotherapy of summer snowflake.
